Investigating the influence of excessive frost (-30'C) on sweet and sour cherry trees, the authors found out that the buds of all investigated varieties of sweet cherries were completly destroyed. For three investigated varieties (Di Vingola, Hardy Gaint and Lambert) there were higher degree of damages on vegetative buds (62.40 - 83.55%), and as the result many of the fruit trees died during the June of 1987. On the other hand, there were no significant frost damages, either on vegetative of blossom buds, in investigated sour cherry varieties (13 varieties). This suggests that the excessive low temperature of -30'C is not so dangerous for the sour cherry, as a fruit sort, especially if frost occurs in January.
