Teats disinfection after milking has been carried out in 1515 dairy cows at four (1-4) farms. At farms 1, 2 and 3 disinfection was effected by the applicator and at farm 4 by the sprayer. Disinfectants were Blinal and Zlatol Jodip. The study has been conducted over two consecutive years. Before disinfection staphylococcus infections of the udder after milking were detected in 16.43% of cows subject to investigation and were caused by Staphylococcus aureus. After a year of prophylactic measures the percentage of the infections was reduced to 10.71% and further to 6.37% after the second year. The greatest reduction of the udder staphylococcus infections was achieved at farm 3 where the 28.46% initial infections were reduced to 6.98%. The percentage of newly infected udders accounted for only 10-15% of entire infections, depending on the locale of investigation. The disinfection of teats after milking prevents development of new intramammary infections of the udder and improves the quality of raw milk.
