The work consisted of the study of the form of udder. Out of 1.124 examined animals, over half the number (57,29%) had regularly developed udder. Among constitutionally unfavourable udder forms, most common were pendulous ones (12.01%). Subclinical mastitis occurs most frequently in pendulous udder (average 13.30%), which has been confirmed by a highly significant difference between normal and pendulous udder, as well as between pendulous and pointedly shaped udder. Latent infection was diagnosed in most cases of split udder. In conclusion, it is stated that form of udder, in addition to other elements, is to be viewed as important, if qualitative and quantitative aims in improvement of milk production are to be achieved. Therefore, in selecting productional stock, i.e., selecting of races of dairy cows, both on state owned and on private farms, form of udder should be taken into account.
