Genotoxic effects of the insecticide "Fosfamid-40" were examined by treating the root tips of Allium cepa L. Five different concentrations in aqueous solutions were applied: 0.00625%, 0.0125%, 0.05%, and 0.10%. Treatments with the first and the second concentration lasted four hours while with other concentrations it lasted 4, 8 and 12 hours respectively. It was observed that "Fosfamid-40" had genotoxic i.e. mutagenic effects upon the onion cells. The effects were manifested as cytological and mitotic structural and numerical aberrations of chromosomes as well as chromosome number variations.
