Yield and technological characteristics of ten spring brewing barley varieties were tested in field vegetation trials on the locality of Cacak (Serbia, Yugodlavia), in the period between 1979 and 1985 at the altitude of 400-450 m. The best yield was given by Georgie variety, then Pirouette and Velebit variety took the third place. The fourth place was taken by Kraguj variety. The difference in yield between the best and the fourth best varieties amounted to 83 kg/ha; consequently, there was no statistically secured difference in yield between any two varieties that had taken first four places. The last, tenth place was taken by Union variety. The four varieties gave greater statistically secured yield than Union variety and the increase amounted to 502-585 kg/ha. Besides high genetic fertility potentials, the varieties Georgie, Pirouette, Velebit and Kraguj have good technological kernel characteristics, in accordance with the European Brewery Convention requirements.
