Combining ability and heterosis in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) [of Bangladesh]
1989
Ali, M.S. | Bhowmik, A. | Khan, S.H.
Heterosis and combining ability were studied for days to flowering, plant height, harvesting period, number of branches per plant, number of fruits per plant, fruit length-diameter ratio, fruit weight and fruit yield per plant in a six-parent diallel cross of tomato. The variance due to GCA and SCA were highly significant for most of the characters studied indicating the importance of both additive and non-additive gene effects. The parents CI 143-0-10-3 and World Champion were the best general combiners. The crosses Japanese x World Champion, World Champion x FR 2, World Champion x CT I exhibited high heterosis for harvesting period and fruit yield per plant.
