In a large-scale experiment, the feed of 8.5-9.3 kg heavy piglets was supplemented in the first group with 20 mg/kg Tylane and in the first week with 2 o/o Aciber, in the second group besides the above mentioned with 0.17 o/o butyrate, in the third group exclusively with 0.17 o/o butyrate. The feeding lasted until the 26 kg live weight level. The body mass increase and specific feed utilization was greater by 7 o/o in the second group than in both other groups. The microbiological results were also the best in the second group. The coliform ratio diminished with the effect of butyrate, together with the simultaneous increase of lactobacillus numbers in the intestine. The butyrate as a non-body alien stuff can be able to replace single body alien additives by maintaining the biological equilibrium of intestine flora. This does not mean, however, that it can be replaced with Tylan butyrate with a totally different effect mechanism.
