Centralized PT /performance test/ data of Charolais, Hereford and Limousin breeding bull candidates were evaluated in the years 1982-1987. The aim of the investigation was to detect which background variables can be separated during the performance test of the different beef breeds, and with what type of function can the relativity between characteristics of economic importance be described with the most accuracy. The correlation between the single properties could be adequately characterized by a linear relationship. Then, in analyzing the factors influencing performance test results, these factors were emphasized: body mass, age-living mass, feed consumption and conversion. The body mass factor explains, inside each breed, 34.3-44.6 o/o of the whole variance. The age-body mass justified the differentiated consideration of the investigated period according to breeds. The factor feed consumption and conversion indicates the selection aiming at these two characters as established professionaly.
