This rainfall might also not be distributed evenly throughout the year and greatly affects the agricultural production in general. The limitations of rainfall can be overcome by the introduction of irrigation and this paper discusses the role of irrigation in the development of national agriculture. Sites the case of Zimbabwe which has only one main rainy season followed by dry months and irrigation is therefore very necessary; especially for some crops which take long time to mature.
