Three experiments were conducted on the mechanical, biological, and chemical control of banded leaf and sheath blight in corn caused by Rhizoctonia solani. The mechanical control involving the deleafing of corn plants proved to be effective in controlling the upward spread of lesion. The other two experiments were conducted simultaneously. In one of these, the efficacy of controlling lesion spread of a selected fungicide-Validamycin, and four biocon agents-IRRI Bacterial Isolate 33, IRRI Bacterial Isolate 784, Trichoderma aureoviride, Trichoderma harzianum was evaluated. Based on ANOVA results, Validamycin gave the best control, followed by T. harzianum. In the experiment on chemocontrol of R. solani, involving 5 chemicals, namely: Validamycin, Tilt, Rizolex, Rovral, and Benlate, Validamycin afforded the best control in terms of reduction in lesion spread.
