A total of 144 rice samples collected from different sites located in Laguna, Batangas, Cavite and Bicol region [Philippines] during dry and wet seasons of 1988-89 were analyzed for their fungal population using standard blotter method. The analysis yielded 39 fungal forms belonging to 29 genera, infesting both healthy and discolored seeds. The percentage of infestation by different forms ranged differently at various locations. There was even distribution of the common fungal forms among the locations looked for, except for Pyricularia oryzae, Nakatae sigmoideum, and Tilletia barclayana in dry season. However, during the wet season, distribution was uneven for Gerlachia oryzae and Drechslera oryzae while Tilletia barclayana was evenly distributed. A. padwickii showed highest seed infestation, both over healthy and discolored ones, irrespective of the season, followed by Curvularia sp.
