Adoption behavior of tea smallholder farmers in Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia

Findings showed that the respondents were on the average 49.83 years old, have been to formal school for about 7 years, have farmed for 18.26 years, on a farm size of about 1.99 hectares, and earned a monthly family income of Rp 72,691.00. They have high aspirations in life, were motivated by material gain, and had positive attitude toward tea development programs. The respondents perceived their areas to have inadequate infrastructure and market facilities, considered themselves low in credit accessibility, low in contact with extension workers, and also low in communication mean exposure. However, they had high perception of the recommended tea production practices. The majority of the respondents had high adoption level of the recommended tea production practices. The Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient test revealed that this adoption of tea production practices was significantly correlated with personal characteristics psychological factors, and environmental factors.
