The investigated muck-peat soils (MtIIcc) showed marked differences in the total nitrogen content depending on the way in which they were utilized. Soil under forest and crops is characterized by an intensive nitrogen mineralization, resulting from their deeper transformation and the dynamics of mucking processes. Soils under grassland or in alternate exploitation contain higher amounts of total nitrogen. Richest in the latter are the 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm horizons. In deeper parts of the profiles total nitrogen content decreases and shows only slight differences
