Selective feeding on some aquatic plants by the golden applesnail (Pomacea canaliculata)

The snail fed mainly on all aquatic plants and a few vegetables except the aromatic plants as Mentha cordifolia Opiz., Ocimum basilicum Linn. and Allium ascalonicum Linn. The rearing experiment of the golden apple snail with 6 species of plants. The most preferable plants were Hydrilla verticillata and Ceratophyllum demersum which were eaten in equal quantity. The second were Oryza sativa and Nelumbo nucifera while Neptunia oleracea and Eichhornia crassipes were eaten in small quantity throughout the experiment. The golden apple snail grew best in the experiments fed with H. verticillata and C. demersum. The clutch sizes of the eggs were different when fed with different plants and the average number for all feeding test varied from 234 to 473
