Analysis of relationship between grade-factors and prices of paddy [Thailand]
1987
Porngiad Yungyeen
Relationship between grade factor and quality of paddy price, of paddy and cost of milling were analysed. Data were collected from 42 non-glutinious rice mills where operated at least main grades of rice consisting of 100 %,5 % and 10 % in Nakhon Sawan, pichit and Utai Thani. The analysis of factor affecting grading standard showed that only moisture content of paddy had a negative effect on the weight of head-rice. Non-glutinious 10 % was more sensitive to percentage of moisture than the other ones. Results from analysis of the relationship between the grade factors and price of paddy showed that the weight and wholesale price of head-rice had the positive effect to the relationship statistically differenced by grades with exception of those between rice 5 % and 10 %. The analysis of the relationship between prices of paddy and costs of milling indicated that the millers discounted the purchased prices of paddy by 1.543 baht for a one baht increase in the cost of milling. In opposite if the prices of rice increase by one baht per ton, the millers offered an increase of paddy price at mill gate by only 0.2108 baht per ton. This indicated that millers transfered the increased milling costs to farmers in a greater proportion than the transfer of rice prices.
