Activity of Rhizobium japonicum strains was evaluated on the basis of the number of nodules on the soybean root, their diameter, dry mass and the percentage of active nodules. There were also investigated the content of total proteins in leaves and the activity of some enzymes of the nitrogen assimilation in leaves of soybean inoculated with R. japonicum strains. Investigation results indicated that inoculation of soybean seeds with the mixture of strains, nitrogen-fixers, was more efficient than application of individual strains. Soybean with nitrogen--fixing bacteria had an increased activity of nitrate reductase from the soil at the time of grain forming. No differences were established in the enzyme activities of glutamin synthetase and glutamate dehydrogenase that would originate from the presence of nitrogen-fixers on the soybean root.
