Karyotype analysis of a gynogenetic population of Carassius auratus gibelio Bloch (Cyprinidae) from Pancevacki Rit [Yugoslavia]
1989
Fister, S. | Soldatovic, B. (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Belgrade (Yugoslavia))
Thirty individuals of Carassius auratus gibelio caught in Pancevacki Rit (Yugoslavia) were cytogenetically analyzed. The number of chromosomes in all samples was 158. Chromosomes were classified into groups in the classical manner and it was attempted to classify them into triplets. The data were compared with corresponding results from the available literature. On the basis of already described variations in chromosome number of specimens from different localities, the existence of clones of this fish species differing in caryotype, i.e. clonal differentiation of unisexual population structure was suggested. Some hypotheses on the genesis of unisexual Carassius auratus gibelio populations are given.
