The investigations of epiphyte microflora of the grain in different wheat varieties included 17 varieties of soft wheat, Triticum aestivum and 1 variety of hard wheat, Triticum durum. The seed originated from 2 different localities (areas), Skopje and Ovcepolje in Macedonia (Yugoslavia). The presence of bacteria and fungi depended on the variety and production conditions. Number of bacteria was greater in varieties grown in the Skopje area than in Ovcepolje. In both areas the greatest number of bacteria was registered in the Partizanka variety. A great number of fungi was found on seeds of varieties produced in the Ovcepolje area with the exception of varieties, Dika and Mina. Actinomycetes were scarcely present in the investigated varieties. With some varieties a species of Azotobacter, Saccharomyces cerevisiae was found. With some varieties no ammonifiers were recorded. They were found in a great number in seeds from the Ovcepolje area.
