Lake Robertville and Lake Butgenbach are two reservoirs created by impoundments on the Warche, a small salmonid stream of eastern Belgium. In order to estimate the efficiency of coregonids stockings in the two lakes, a preliminary survey of the recreational fishery (angling) was peformed and the proportion of the coregonids in the total catch was estimated. The results are based on data originating from 932 fishing parties (on average: 7,5 hours) and 62 different anglers. The mean number of caught fish was estimated, for the two lakes, at 15 per fishing party. Roach represented 83% of the total catch, bream 6 %, perch 3%, brown trout3 % and coregonids 2%. In spite of equivalent stocking in both lakes, the catch rate of coregonids is much higher in Lake Robertville (262 records - 3,2% of the total catch) than in Lake Butgenbach (4 records). In 1991, 74% of the coregonids caught during the fishing season (March till November) were recorded within the ten first weeks following the opening day.
