Amblyospora tritaeniorhynchi n. sp. is a new microsporidian parasite of the mosquito Culex tritaeniorhynchus (Diptera, Culicidae). It infects the adipose tissue of larvae and adults of both sexes. Gametogenesis, plasmogamy, merogony and its octoporoblastic sporogony were studied by light and electron microscopy. The meiospores are barrel-shaped in form, uninucleate, haploid and measure 8.50+/-0.13 mum X 6.32+/-0.09 mum. The polaroplast is lamellar and the polar filament is anisofilar with 8.5 to 9.5 coils. The large metabolic granules present small electron clear vesicles.
