[Design and evaluation of a sowing - fertilizing machine]
1990
Villalobos L, Enrique Zacarias
At the Agronomy, Veterinary and Forestry Sciences School of the Universidad de Concepcion, it was developed and evaluated a sowing-fertilizing precise machine prototype, that permits in only one journey the sowing and fertilizing task. This machine principally consists of a seed and fertilizer metering unit. The seed metering mechanism adapts itself to various crops, sowing depths and different distances from seed to seed on the row. The fertilizer metering unit also presents the possibility to be adapted to different metering functions, according to the crops requirements, whether in seeding volume or in its depth. Both mechanisms are mounted on a simple chassis, independently activated by chains and gearing systems connected to a main pinion set on the axle of the driving wheel. The gears may be changed together with the seed metering disk, or the fertilizer screw according to the specific requirements of each crop. The evaluations of the machine while working, permitted the verification that the seed metering system doesn't achieve a normal and constant flow on the seeding row. The machine delivers an average of 38.64% of seed well placed, 42.40% of seed multiplicity and 18.96% of seeding failure because of the excessive distance from seed to seed. The fertilizer metering unit presented a constant and appropriate behavior to the required conditions, but the fertilizer covering was not, this mechanism doesn't present an individual furrow covering device, which let the seed and fertilizer together. The machine is easily operated in well prepared soils, obtaining a 1.67 man-journey and seeder per hectare, at a speed of 2.5 km/hr
