In 1985-1987 the influence of 150 and 300 kg.ha-1 N and 50 - 100 kg.ha-1 PK in 3 and 6 cuts was studied in sown grassland at Debrecen, Hungary. Experiments were carried out in the lowland type carbonate chernozem. In 3 cuts the dry matter yields increased by 33 - 35 percent, with 300 kg.ha-1 N rates increasing them by 10 - 11 percent. The highest N efficiency was found in 3 cuts and 150 kg.ha-1 N rates. Following factors influencing the yield were found: number of cuts - 34 percent; N rate - 7 percent, and weather conditions - 59 percent. In the 3-cut utilization the nutrient concentration was found lower but the yields higher than in 6-cut variant. With the 3-cut variant the ratio of Dactylis glomerata and Bromus inermis increased, and that of Poa pratensis and Festuca pratensis decreased.
