The agronomical and technological characteristics of the following 12 varieties of green beans were studied: Slankette, S. Contender, Ovation, Val Green, Fiolana, Tenor, Rolando, Cometa, Pirate, Borlet St. Zagorski, Barbouni Nano. The varieties Slankette, S. Contender, Borlet and Ovation gave the highest yields. Furthermore these varieties showed very good agronomical and technological characteristics for processing. The varieties Val Green, St. Zagorski and Fiolana gave also good results. All varieties studied can be considered suitable for mechanical harvesting. The variety Barbouni Nano, selection of Vegetable and Vine Culture Institute of Pirgos gave good yield and good agronomical and technological characteristics but plant pods were found to be less tender in comparison with pods from other varieties. The varieties with flat pod (e.g. Barbouni, St. Zagorski, Borlet) gave a lower chlorophyll content, a lighter green pod colour and better eating quality in comparison with varieties with round pod.
