The experiment was conducted at the Maros Experimental Farm during the dry season 1987 to study the economic efficiency of N fertilizer placement on the yield of corn and soybean intercropping. The treatments were arranged in a split plot design with three replications. The plot size was 3.5 m x 8.o m. The main plot consisted of 3 intercropping combinations, i.e. 2:3 (2 rows of corn and 3 rows of soybean), 2:4 (2 rows of corn and 4 rows of soybean), 2:5 ( 2 rows of corn and 5 rows of soybean). Fertilizer placement of N was assigned in sub plot of 6 methods, dibble on corn, dibble on soybean, dibble on corn and soybean, drill in the furrow between corn and soybean, broadcast and no fertilizer. Urea, TSP and KCL were applied at the rates of 90 Kg N, 60 kg P2O5, 60 kg K2O/ha for corn and 45 kg N, 30 kg P2O5 and 30 kg K2O/ha for soybean, respectively. TSP and KCl were applied as basal at sowing time. The results showed that the highest net return was obtained when N was dibble on corn and soybean of all intercropping combinations i.e. Rp 1,226,667; Rp 1,003,487 and Rp 1,006,317/ha in 2:3, 2:4 and 2:5 intercropping respectively.
