Screening of potato varieties for field resistance to bacterial wilt (Pseudomonas solanacearum) (Trial 2)
1992
Gunther, M.
The same eleven varieties in Trial 1 were planted and inoculated with Pseudomonas solanacearum 29 days after planting. Instead of pure culture, infected tubers from previous crops were used for inoculation. Number of infected plants were counted 7, 14, 24, and 35 days after inoculation. None of the varieties tested showed total resistance to bacterial wilt. Desiree was among the most highly infected. Atlantic had a low infection at 7 DAI but showed as much symptom as Desiree after 35 days. Clones 379673.156, 380510.4 and 573079 could potentially compete with Sequoia in terms of yield and resistance to bacterial wilt. No distinct relationship was noted between the severity of infection on the shoot and roots/tubers.
