An experiment on 26 halothane-susceptible Belgian Landrace pigs immobilized for 4 hr in 5 consecutive days was carried out. A stress-induced lymphopenic effect (SLE) as a successive decrease of the number of peripheral lymphocytes and progressive lymphopenia during the first 3 days of immobilization stress in pigs was observed. A dominant role of B lymphocytes in SLE was suggested
