Six primary 8x-triticales were studied in comparison with their wheat and rye progenitors. Concerning the morphological, yield and quality parameters studied at ear emergency stage, one can say that plant height of 8x- triticales was always between that of wheat and rye, and spike length of 8x-triticales was always higher than that of their progenitors. Five of the six 8x-triticale had: 1) leaf number per plant and area of the last leaf half-way between wheat and rye, while spike number per plant was higher than both their progenitors; 2) total dry matter yield per plant as well as leaf, stem and spike components were higher than in wheat and rye. In most cases, crude protein content of leaf, stem and spike of the 8x-triticales was lower than in both progenitors. Data presented will be discussed as a strategy in a program for breeding triticale as a forage crop
