Primary production data from eight cycles were analyzed to evaluate the crossability of 4x and 6x wheats and rye progenitors. Data were collected on seed set (seeds/pollinated flower), embryo set (embryos/pollinated flower), embryo viability (germinated plants/rescued embryos) and percent crosses that yielded plants. Differences between the years for embryo viability were greater for crosses with 6x wheats than for crosses with 4x wheats. The crosses with 4x wheats gave increased seed set over crosses with 6x wheats, but embryo viability was higher with the latter. The best rye parents, in terms of plant recovery, were different for 4x and 6x wheat/rye crosses
