The HMW glutenin subunit compositions of doubled haploid triticale lines

The protein composition of thirty-five doubled haploid triticale lines produced by anther culture was studied by SDS-PAGE analysis. A wide variation between the lines was observed; even lines originating from the same spike can have a different protein pattern. In some hexaploid lines GLU-D1 genes are present, which indicates outcrossing of the parental population. Many lines show a very thick band at the position of wheat GLU-B1 allele 7. It is possible that both the wheat and the rye genome produce a protein having the same molecular weight and these proteins together form the band. There seems to be a connection between the band and seed shrivelling
