Sowa, W. | Mackowiak, W. (IHAR, Bionie (Poland). Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute)
Data are presented on the winter and spring triticale varieties developed at IHAR (Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute). Trial results indicate that all registered varieties of triticale should be recommended for commercial growing. Triticale varieties possess significantly higher grain and protein yield than the species they are compared with (wheat and rye) and are more adaptable to variable growing conditions. They are somewhat more susceptible to lodging than wheat, but less so than rye and are more disease resistant. They are more tolerant to acid soils and aluminium toxicity than wheat, but less tolerant than rye
