To supply breeders in Thailand and the region of South and Southeast Asia with information of genetic boron (B) deficiency tolerance of bread wheat germplasm, broad screening of adapted and newly introduced material was undertaken. A two-step testing system is used. Field plots with and without B fertilizer in a deficient soil (less than 0.12 mg hot water soluble B/kg soil) followed by sand culture of promising lines with 0 and 0.2 mM of B in a nutrient solution. The following lines proved to be better than deficiency-tolerant checks CMU26 and Sonora 64: Fang 60, HAHN per 2/PRL, no. 144, CNO79 per 2/PRL, Insee 2, and no. 1510
