Simulation of the soil-water dynamics in the root zone during the vegetation period, 2: The course of soil water state variables below the maize canopy

Results of the simulation of water transport in the soil-zone with maize canopy are presented. The mathematical model GLOBAL was described in the first part of this article. Continuously changed properties of the soil profile were represented by five possible, but discrete vertical distributions. For the comparison, model GLOBAL was used with, and without consideration of hysteresis of soil hydraulic properties. The soil moisture profiles calculated and measured in the field correspond. Differences between measured and calculated moisture profiles are mostly due to the method of the representation of the soil properties used in the model. The calculated values of elements of the soil water balance with maize canopy at Trnava, Slovakia in 1981 illustrate the possibilities of the presented simulation model GLOBAL.
