Varietal improvement of Chinese radish (Raphanus sativus var. Longipinnatus)

Seeds of ten varieties of Chinese radish (Raphanus Sativus L. var. Longipinnatus) were sown for yield performance test at Maejo Institute of Agricultural Technology, during October 1983-April 1984. The variety No. 10 which was improved by Fang Horticultural Experiment Station gave the highest root yield per plot (11.2850 kgs.). However the root yields of varieties No. 10, 2, 3, 9, 6 and 5 were not significantly different. These varieties can be recommended to the growers. The variety which gave the lowest root yield per plot was variety No. 1 (7.7300 kgs.). The roots with good quality were transplanted into the field. They were selfed by bud pollination at the time of flowering. Degree of self-incompatibility was observed among different plants.
