Study was made under farm-orchard conditions in Nontaburi province near Bangkok, of the effect of paclobutrazol application on off-season flowering and fruit set of the mango variety Kaew-Sawaey. Four year old mango trees of approximately the same size were selected for the study. The treatments comprised zero, 1, 2, 4 and 8 gm. of paclobutrazol dissolved in two litres of water, the solution being applied to the soil surface of individual treatment trees. There was a clear effect on the inducement of earlier flowering, the higher the application rate the greater the effect. The effect on flowering was also reflected in the number of off-season fruit per tree, mean fruit number with the progressive increases in paclobutrazol application rate being 0, 0, 5.1, 21.2, and 23.0, respectively. However, total fruit yield (off-season plus seasonal fruit yield) was greatest with the application rate of 4 gm. (in two litres of water) per tree; total yield declined at the higher application rate. The respective total fruit yields application rates of 0, 4 and 8 gm. per tree were 10.4, 103.4 and 51.9 fruit per tree.
