Study on growth stages of peanut was conducted at Mae Hea Research and Training Centre, Faculty of Agriculture, Chiang Mai University, During October 1986-February 1987. Tainan 9 and CES 101 cultivars were planted on 16 October 1986 on a well prepared seedbed. Seeds were planted at 12.5 cm between plants and 50 cm between rows. The seedlings were thinned immediately after emergence to two plants per hill. The plants were daily observed during the vegetative stages and every 3 days during the reproductive stages. Growth stages were determined based on visual observation. The V stage was determined by counting the number of developed nodes on the main stem. The nodes were counted when the tetrafoliolate leaf was sufficiently expanded and flat in appearance. The R stages proposed are R1 (beginning bloom), R2 (beginning peg), R3 (beginning pod), R4 (full pod), R5 (beginning seed), R6 (full seed), R7 (beginning maturity) and R8 (harvest maturity)
