Effects of gypsum and micronutrient on pod yield and seed quality in three groundnut cultivars

There was no response of groundnut fresh weight to application of gypsum or of micronutrients. Averaging over three cultivars, 100-seed weight and shelling percentage significantly increased with increasing rates of gypsum upto 200 kg./rai. Addition of micronutrients to gypsum increased shelling percentage but not 100-seed weight. No significant response to gypsum or micronutrients was found in dry pod yield of all cultivars. Percentage of seed with black heart incidence was significantly reduced by application of gypsum and was much less in the presence of micronutrients. Percentage of seed with hollow heart incidence increased with increasing rates of gypsum, but was decreased in the presence of micronutrients. NC Ac 17090 produced the least percentage of seed with either black heart or hollow heart incidence NC 6 produced seed with black heart incidence as high as Tainan 9. NC 6 was less sensitive to hollow heart formation. In the presence of micronutrients, gypsum significantly increased number of filled and matured pods.
