Determination of the level of soil fertility of experimental plots in Suwan farm [Thailand]
1988
Rachain Thiraporn (National Corn and Sorghum Research Center, Bangkok (Thailand))
Objective of this trial is to evaluate the level of soil fertility of the experimental plots in National Corn and Sorghum Research Center (Suwan Farm). So that a more efficient use of fertilizer can be attained. A factorial design in RCB was employed. There were three levels of nitrogen applications, i.e. 0, 5 and 10 kg. N/rai. Three levels of phosphate fertilizer were 0, 5 and 10 kg. P2O5/rai. And two levels of potassium fertilizer were 0 and 5 kg. K2O/rai. Suwan 2310 (a single-cross hybrid) was used as experimental plants. Nitrogen application had a marked effect on the grain yield of Suwan 2310. The grain yields due to the increasing levels of nitrogen application were 780, 903 and 1,023 kg./rai respectively. Increment of the grain yields relative to the check (plots receiving 0 kg. N/rai) were 15.77 and 31.15 % respectively. Furthermore, increasing level of nitrogen application increased the number of grains, the length of ears, plant height and the number of leaves. Application of phosphate and potassium fertilizer did not affect the yields of corn. There was no interaction among the types of fertilizer elements. In short, nitrogen application did increase grain yield of corn. Whilst phosphate and potassium application did not affect the yield of corn.
