In vitro and in vivo development of bisected rabbit morulae
1986
Mongkol Techakumphu (AHTSO., Bangkok (Thailand))
Rabbit embryos at the morula stage (53-56 hours after ovulation) were bisected by microsurgical method. Their development was tested by culture and by transfer through uterus and oviduct of synchronized recipients. The in vitro development of half morulae was similar to that of the control (93.8 vs 84.9 %, P0.05). But no survival was obtained after transfer into the uterus which was contrary to the control (0 vs 94.7 %. Four point five percents (1/22) of half morula introducing in the zona pellucida covered with thin mucin coat has developed to blastocyst stage after transfer through oviduct of synchronized recipient. This finding indicates that half embryos can develop if they are well protected before transfer.
