Sompol Thuwachot
Field sprays were done with Copravit, Benlate 75 C and Dithane M-45 to spray the 5 varieties of pears before harvest. Dithane M 45 gave the best result to control fruit rot of Yokoyamawase and Pien Pu pears. Pien Pu pears were sprayed with Dithane M-45 for 16 consecutive sprays from fruit set to harvest time yielded the best control of fruit rots. Three to four sprays with Dithane M-45 before fruit bagging or one spray at fruit bagging gave the same result of the disease. Five varieties of pear fruits were kept at room temperature (30-35 deg. Celsius) for 2 weeks for fruit rot study. Yokoyamawase showed highest losses, followed by Pien Pu, Sung-mao, Xiang-sui and Pathanak, respectively. Dithane M-45 field treated Yokoyamawase and Pien Pu gave the best result for reduction of fruit rots. Postharvest fruit rots from field treated pears are mainly caused by Collectotrichum gloeosporioides.
