This paper shows that purified activated glucocorticoid receptor(GR) in both rat liver and rat thymus is accompanied by a protein kinase activity. The kinase is serine and threonine directed and in addition to purified GR, phosphorylates basic substrates such as various histone fractions and protamine in the presence of magnesium ions. The concomitance of the kinase with the GR in both anabolic and catabolic tissue suggests its possible significance to the GR functioning in vivo
