Investigation of cellulase enzymes in Bulgaria and the possibilities for their application in biotechnology
1993

Enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose and its derivatives is now viewed as a complex and multistage process, catalyzed by at least three synergistically operating enzymes (cellulase, cellobiohydrolase and beta-glucosidase), forming the cellulase enzyme system or complex. The cellulase enzyme system has been successfully used in biotechnology for bioconversion of cellulose substrates to D-glucose. Profound microbiological, biotechnical and biotechnological studies of the cellulase enzyme system and its components from moulds (e.g. Trichoderma sp., Aspergillus sp., etc.) have been carried out for the last 30 years in Bulgaria.
