An all-round evaluation of the state of Bulgaria sericulture has been made. The trends, accompanying its development in the last 15 years, are described. On that basis, the problems awaiting solution in this branch at the present stage are outlined. The main reason leading to the present reduced production of cocoons, planting material and silkworm eggs as compared to the period in the late '70ies are revealed. The directions for future improvement and stabilization of sericultural production are increased cocoon production per dka mulberry plantation and rationalized operations in the production process. In conclusion is presented a new structure of the organization of sericulture in the conditions of market economy.
