The value of forests of recrational importance should be assessed with a view to their conservation. The utilisation, attractiveness, sanitary and hygienic condition, and especially the resistance of park forests, have been estimated on the basis of a system of indicators worked out by the Estonian Forestry Institute.The most important parameters in the estimation of the resistance of forests are the forest type and the indicators characterising the stand, the ground vegetation and the soil. These provide the initial data necessary for planning the measures to be taken for the organisation management and maintenance of forest areas
