On microbiological studies at the Estonian Research Institute of Animal Breeding and Veterinary Science

During 1947-1987 the problems of etiology, diagnostics, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases in animals and fowls have been studied at the Estonian Research Institute of Animal Breeding and Veterinary Science. The application of the study results has made it possible to eradicate hydrophobia, bovine brucellosis, tuberculosis in cattle, pigs and fowls, trichophytia, a contagious atrophic rhinitis in pigs, influenza (grippe), etc. At present the etiology treatment and prophylaxis of bovine mastitis as well as the preparation for the prevention of colibacteriosis and salmonellosis in calves are under investigation, using the cell-technological and gene-engineering means
