The effect of ad libitum fed alfalfa, supplemented with 16 o/o and 14 o/o raw protein, and of alfalfa hay and maize silage, supplemented but with one kind of concentrate, on the live weight increase and feed conversion, as well as the effect of roughages exercised on the dimensional development of the digestive tract were examined in feeding experiments carried out with Landes geese. The favourable effect of feeding green forages on the examined parameters depended on their total dry matter and, within it, on the raw fibre content. The ad libitum feeding of concentrates resulted in a greater nutrient matter intake and unfavourable conversion of the energy and raw protein. As a counterbalance it is expedient to feed the concentrates rationed from the beginning of the 6th week of the rearing period. The volume of gizzards among geese consuming roughages ad libitum was bigger than that of those reared only with concentrates, which refers to vigorous interior activity
