Results of accelerating maize ripening with Harvade 25 F in Borsod county (North-Eastern Hungary)
1992
Pasztor, B. (Aranykalasz Mezogazd. Termeloszov., Halmai (Hungary))
In autumn 1991 treatments with Harvade and Harvade + Agrol were carried out in maize in order to accelerate biological ripening. With the aid of Harvade treatment, the maize ripened sooner, drying down accelerated and within 21 days the moisture content of the kernels reached a value of ca. 21 o/o, 8 o/o lower than that of the untreated control, leading to a substantial saving in drying costs (5600 Ft/ha = ca. 70 US dollars/ha net). During the rainy weather characteristic of the second half of October, the kernels did not regain moisture. At harvesting the kernel loss dropped by 4 o/o. Residues of the active agent, dimethipin, could not be demonstrated either in the kernels or in the stalk residues. The application of Harvade leads to a considerable reduction in the effect of the weather, one of the major risk factors, so it could have great potential in northern regions of Hungary
