Packaging and land transportation of Valensia orange, Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck, by train

To determine the physiological losses of weight and mechanical damage of Valensia orange, eight treatment combinations consisting of two capacity of wooden boxes 22-25 kg (A0) and 16 kg (A1) combined with 4 treatments of packaging using liners (B0) and without liners (B1), liners and fresh leaves of Gliricidia as cushioning materials (B2) and by using leaves of Gliricidia as cushioning materials (B3) were subjected to land transportation by train from Malang-Surabaya-Jakarta. The best result was obtained by using wooden boxes capacity of 22-25 kg with liners and fresh leaves of Gliricidia resulted in only 0,25 percent of weight losses after 21 hours transportation. The mechanical damage of the fruit was not found in all treatments
