Heritability estimates for egg production traits in Indonesian layer ducks

Heritability estimates for production traits are important in designing genetic selection program. There are no such published estimates available for Indonesia ducks. Heritability estimates for egg production traits are calculated using the method of full sib correlation and the data are pooled over purebreeds, crossbreeds and over purebreeds and crossbreeds, respectively. The data are taken from the results of a crossbreeding experiment between Alabio, Khaki Campbell and Tegal ducks. Heritability estimates pooled over breeds range from moderate to slightly, from the values 0.2 to 0.6. The estimates are generally higher in crossbreed than purebreed populations.
