1989
Suprapto (Sub Balai Penelitian Tanaman Rempah dan Obat, Natar (Indonesia))
Study on biological response of the "gegaja" (Lophobaris serratipes Marsh.) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) was carried out during 1989 at Natar Sub Station, Research Institute for Spice and Medicinal Crops. The study was on the preference of the "gegaja" and the suitability of pepper varieties of Natar 1, Petaling 1, Panniyur, Petaling 2, Kalluvally and Natar 2 as host plants to the pest. The results showed that "gegaja" fed and laid its eggs on all pepper varieties tested. Eggs hatching was 100 percent, larval mortality was 15.17 percent and pupal mortality 16.17 percent. Pepper varieties did not significantly affect food consumption by larvae and weight of larvae. However based on the number of eggs laid, survival of larvae, pupae and adults, the preference of this pest was in the following order: Kalluvally, Panniyur, Natar 1, Petaling 1, Petaling 2 and Natar 2.
