Production and marketing analyses of tree products in selected provinces in Region 4 [Philippines]
1993
Carandang, A.P.
The results of the analyses showed the following relevant findings: (1) the general tree crops preference among small farmers in the area studied were fruit trees. (2) some of the tree crops planted by farmers had low financial returns like coffee, coconut and forest trees. (3) The market structure governing tree products production was generally approaching perfect competition. (4) Tree crops with very good domestic market demands were carabao mango, lanzones, guayabano and cashew. Those with good export demand include coffee, carabao mango, cashew and guayabano. (5) Using the results of financial and market analyses of the study and other relevant observations, a decision model for selecting tree crops were developed to guide farmers in adopting the crops that suit their needs and financial objectives. Likewise, a checklist for selecting fruit trees in the three provinces was incorporated in this report to help farmers choose the appropriate tree crops for their farms
